So to get where you want, you have to jump into the water and get better with practice…if you only put your toes into the water…you will never learn how to swim.
So when I hit the forties I felt I wasn’t really doing what I had dreamt about when I was young. After my studies, I have been running a local business with my husband, a lot of hard work, joy, doing well but now it was time for me to take up my own career. There are still so many things that I would like doing and for sure, I want to be successful and make a difference. So in order to progress, I started to seize new opportunities around me and to do things I didn’t believe I was ready for.
One of the first opportunities coming my way was actually something I had been dreaming about during several years. Loving culture and languages, I wanted to teach English within a special environmental program at the university I had attended here in France. So when I finally got the job I was longing for and then realized that the students were to be over 25 in a group….. I can tell you, I freaked out!!! I prepared myself, did my best to believe in my capacities and even if this course turned out not to be that of a dream, I’ve now gained experience to continue to teach English within other courses and other types of classes.
During the last years I have also been working on my wellness business, sometimes a lot and sometimes almost nothing and now I felt that I wanted to move forward and grow. So I got invited by a friend to join a business network group. Same thing here, I didn’t believe I was ready enough and that my business would even fit in….imagine talking skincare products and wellness in front of a group of 30 mostly made out of busy men. But after some reflection I decided to jump in while I had the possibility and at least learn. First of all I discovered that I love networking and after a quite nervous start I now feel that I have my place there. I have already met so many great people, I have gained self-confidence, my business is actually growing and I’m also getting new opportunities on the way.
Finally, I want to point out that it might happen that we don’t believe in our capacities even when it’s just about an everyday task. The other day I had an appointment with a customer to show different devices and with one of them I just don’t feel at ease even though I know how to. Maybe it’s ridiculous but that’s the truth. As it’s a part of my job, I got my smile on, got some last minute tips and went off…..and guess what….I handled it fine, just as my sister and bizpartner said I would do (she believes in Me ).
The Conclusion
So we all have doubts, that’s normal, but the most important thing is – Don’t make them stop You!!
Be confident, Have dreams, chase them, learn from others and from your own experiences, get better by doing…. and finally you will succeed.
So believe in yourself and jump into the water!!!
